NYC Good News
Sailing can be an incredible experience almost anywhere, but certain destinations have a little extra magic, especially when you are planning your first yacht holiday. Sunshine, weather conditions, surrounding landscapes and the overall atmosphere can all have a major influence on how enjoyable your cruise becomes. To make choosing easier, here is an overview of some of the finest seas for sailing. If you are still undecided about where to head, any of these destinations can make an excellent choice.
Adriatic Sea
The Adriatic is one of the Mediterranean’s seas, with Italy and Croatia making up most of its coastline. Sailors can also visit destinations such as Slovenia and Montenegro. The two sides of the Adriatic look quite different. The western shoreline is generally steep and less welcoming, while the eastern side is scattered with more than a thousand islands, many of which offer outstanding conditions and scenery for sailing. The weather is also fairly predictable, making the Croatian section particularly appealing to people taking their first boating holiday.
The ideal sailing period generally stretches from late April through late September. June, July and August form the busiest part of the season, bringing the warmest conditions as well as the highest yacht rental prices. October is another possibility after the main season ends. Although the weather becomes less predictable, the sea remains pleasantly warm. Croatia offers numerous marinas where you can charter a sailboat or catamaran, including Trogir, Split, Dubrovnik, Kaštela and Šibenik.
Aegean Sea
Stretching between Greece and Turkey, the Aegean Sea is home to more than 6,000 islands. Among its best-known islands are Rhodes, Santorini, Naxos and Kos. The sailing season here lasts slightly longer than it does along the Croatian coast, with suitable conditions sometimes extending into early November. Temperatures are generally pleasant, although sailors should be aware of the Meltemi winds, which can become troublesome between the middle of May and the middle of September.
Ionian Sea
Many sailors consider the Ionian Sea one of Europe’s finest choices for a family yacht holiday. It combines pleasant weather with tranquil turquoise waters, lush green islands, peaceful bays, attractive beaches, historic landmarks and welcoming Greek communities. Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Lefkada are among the islands found here. You may already know some of them from holidays on land, but seeing these destinations from the deck of a yacht offers an entirely different experience. The sailing season can continue until November, and the water is generally a little warmer than in the Aegean Sea.
Tyrrhenian Sea
The Tyrrhenian Sea is a particularly fascinating section of the Mediterranean and lies almost entirely within Italian territory. France also has a presence here through the island of Corsica. With a variety of winds moving through the region, the area provides excellent opportunities for sailing. The season can run from March through November, while average summer temperatures reach a comfortable 23°C.
Beach lovers should consider steering toward Sardinia or Corsica, both known for their spectacular coastlines. Those who want to combine time in the water with historical exploration should make room for Sicily, where opportunities to discover the past are just as appealing as swimming and relaxing in the sunshine.
Caribbean Sea
If you would rather escape to the sea during winter, the Caribbean is an excellent alternative. Its main sailing season lasts from December through April, when the conditions are generally ideal and the scenery is exceptionally beautiful. The Caribbean is also enormous, so attempting to explore the entire region during one trip is unrealistic. Instead, choose one particular area and spend your time discovering it.
Possible destinations include the British Virgin Islands, the Grenadines, St Lucia and the more untamed coastline of Belize. Wherever you choose to sail, you can expect brilliant turquoise water, peaceful lagoons and beautiful beaches.
Andaman Sea
Our final destination takes us to Asia. The Andaman Sea borders India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, although Thailand is by far one of the most popular sections for sailors. The most favorable period for a yacht trip is from November through March, outside the rainy season.
Exploring Thailand from the water can also reveal a very different side of the country compared with traveling overland. Instead of concentrating on busy and well-known tourist resorts, a yacht allows you to reach quieter and more scenic areas, spend time surrounded by the sea and enjoy Thailand’s excellent cuisine along the way.

All about the Bluethroat
The Bluethroat is a visually impressive bird species, best recognized for the vivid blue patch covering the throat area. This colorful bib is bordered by two bands, one reddish-brown and the other dark black. Like many bird species, male Bluethroats have more colorful and elaborate markings compared with females, which lack the distinctive blue throat patch. Both sexes have grayish upperparts and pale underparts. Another shared feature is their habit of spreading their tails, revealing a chestnut-colored marking close to the tail tip.

Crispy Pan-Seared Salmon Fillets
A well-cooked pan-seared salmon should feature crisp, crackling skin, juicy and tender flesh cooked to a medium-rare center, and fully rendered fat beneath the skin. Achieving this balance can be challenging because the skin may stick, the fish can overcook quickly, and the fat layer under the skin can turn greasy. With the correct method, however, these issues are easy to avoid.

Eternal Affection for Vintage Automobiles
In the realm of automobiles, a question lingers: Why do people still harbor such fervent love for classic cars? In many instances, classic cars might be dismissed as outdated relics. As James May wittily quipped, "If they were any good, they'd still be made." Indeed, when compared to their modern counterparts, classic cars often appear as underwhelming. Modern vehicles boast superior speed, handling, reliability, comfort, cleanliness, safety, economy, and even affordability. They seem to outshine classics in nearly every conceivable aspect. Yet, against all odds, classic cars not only endure but thrive in today's world. Why is this?
