Jeep Wrangler Van: The Next Big Thing?

Off-road vans have gained a loyal following over the years, often borrowing their foundations from pickup trucks. Now, a new concept called the “Vangler” is generating buzz online. NYC Good News

Off-road vans have gained a loyal following over the years, often borrowing their foundations from pickup trucks. Now, a new concept called the “Vangler” is generating buzz online. Created by designer Samir Sadikhov, the vehicle imagines what a van version of the Jeep Wrangler might look like. While it remains only a digital rendering, it raises an interesting question: could an off-road Jeep van actually find a market?

Is There Demand for a Wrangler Van?

Recently, the leadership of Stellantis—the company formed through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA—has spoken about expanding the Jeep lineup. With Jeep aiming to strengthen its presence in international markets, especially Europe, a rugged van could potentially fill a unique niche.

Jeep has explored the van segment before. In the late 1950s, the company produced vans based on its Forward Control platform. However, manufacturing a specialized model was far less expensive at that time. Those vehicles disappeared from production by 1964, and today the cost of developing an entirely new model can run into the billions.

Built Largely from Existing Wrangler Components

One reason the Vangler concept is intriguing is that it could theoretically be constructed using many existing Wrangler parts. The design appears highly modular, utilizing much of the four-door Wrangler’s rear structure and floorpan.

The front doors could potentially be manufactured from a single symmetrical stamping, with additional processing used to create left- and right-side versions. Likewise, portions of the front bodywork could be adapted from existing Wrangler panels rather than requiring completely new tooling.

The signature Jeep grille would carry over unchanged, while new components would primarily be needed around the windshield, cowl, and upper front body sections. By leveraging existing parts, development costs could be reduced significantly compared to creating a vehicle from scratch.

A Natural Fit for the Overlanding Crowd

The growing popularity of overlanding and adventure travel could provide a strong customer base for a vehicle like the Vangler. Jeep already has an extensive ecosystem of accessories, and a van platform would create even more opportunities for camper conversions, storage solutions, rooftop gear, and off-road equipment.

Safety concerns related to the van’s short front overhang could potentially be addressed through reinforced bumper systems or protective accessories designed to extend crash protection beyond the front fascia.

Inspired by Classic American Vans

Inside, the Vangler would likely follow the layout used by many American vans from the 1970s and 1980s. Manufacturers such as Ford, Dodge, and Chevrolet often mounted their engines between the front seats within a large interior engine cover.

A Wrangler-based van could adopt a similar arrangement. If engineers determined that the powertrain needed to sit farther rearward, some modifications to the Wrangler’s frame structure would likely be required.

Could Jeep Actually Build It?

Because the Wrangler uses a traditional body-on-frame construction, transforming it into a van would be more straightforward than attempting the same project with a unibody SUV like the Grand Cherokee. From a technical standpoint, the concept seems more feasible than many might expect.

Whether Jeep would seriously consider such a project is another matter entirely. Automakers occasionally experiment with unusual vehicle variants—the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet and Chevrolet HHR panel van are examples of niche products that few people predicted.

For now, the Vangler remains nothing more than a designer’s vision. The chances of it reaching production appear slim. Still, the concept offers a fascinating glimpse into what could be possible if Jeep ever decided to combine the Wrangler’s off-road capabilities with the practicality of a van.

Essential Tips for Growing and Caring for Oleander

Essential Tips for Growing and Caring for Oleander

Oleander is a highly valued shrub for gardeners living in warmer climates, primarily due to its resilience and ability to produce beautiful flowers for most of the year. Originating from the Mediterranean region, this evergreen plant is frequently used in public landscaping and roadside plantings because it handles heat, drought, and pollution with ease. It features slender, olive-like leaves and clusters of star-shaped flowers that appear in various shades of white, pink, red, and yellow. While it is an excellent addition to a garden, it is important to remember that all parts of this shrub are highly toxic to humans and pets, so it requires careful handling and thoughtful placement.
